Sony has not yet confirmed, or denied the rumors that they are planning to phase out the 80GB version of the PS3. Currently the 80GB version is the only version to have backwards compatibility. Last week, an alleged Best Buy memo revealed that the 80GB PS3 would be discontinued. “The 80GB version of the PS3 is going closeout and won’t be replaced at this time,” it reads. “Only the 40GB version of PS3 will be sold in Best Buy stores at this time.”
Will Sony make a huge mistake? Or will they decide to update cheaper models with backwards compatibility? Who knows.
