News Update for March 6th

Obviously realizing that there is some trouble afoot, Microsoft on Thursday announced price cuts on its most expensive versions of Vista and said those discounts will range from 20 percent to 48 percent. Ironically, those discounts are designed to coincide with the release of Vista Service Pack 1, which according to Microsoft, will usher in a slew of security fixes and improvements that should make the Vista experience much better. I’m still skeptical that Vista will ever truly get off the ground, and it looks like Microsoft is starting to wake up and smell the rotten eggs. Read the rest of this entry »

Skype Delayed For The PSP

    Well, I’m sure you can tell what this article is about from the title. Sony made a big boo-boo and forgot to make their PSP headsets Skype compatible. Seriously, what were they thinking when they did that. Wouldn’t that be one of the first things that one would do when developing a VOIP program? It is noted that this was for the Japanese release, but that doesn’t change the fact that they slipped up. It wouldn’t be hard to fathom someone losing their job over this. The North American and European launch dates are reportedly not affected. No new launch dates for Japan though. Sorry to all our Japanese readers (all 52 of you.)

In other news, Sony apparently has gained a 93% hold on the HD disc format wars after Warner Brothers announced their plans to switch to being exclusive to Blu-Ray before CES last week.
