Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has announced that he will resign on February 29. Harrison has been working with Sony since 1992 and many are sorry to see him gone.

The past 15 years at Sony Computer Entertainment has been the defining journey of my life so far. I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship. It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis. I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can.

CEO Kazuo Hirai will assume all of Harrison’s responsibilities. Harrison has been behind the Playstation brand for its entirety and I wonder where will the PS3 go now that it has lost its biggest influence. It seems a very inopportune time to leave just as sales were picking up. The PS3 was starting to get bigger, and after the death of the HD-DVD format I doubted anyone would have seen this coming.
